Luna Park re-opening

Luna Park, New York City’s largest amusement park, will officially launch the 2017 season when it opens this weekend.

The Coney Island Cyclone, WindstarZ and Thunderbolt are just some of the rides that will open on Saturday 8th April. In addition, the newly refurbished Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster will celebrate its 90th birthday in 2017.

“It is time for the splendid fun of the season to begin,” said Valerio Ferrari, president of Central Amusement International and Zamperla USA. “We look forward to welcoming families, visitors and amusement enthusiasts experience all the fun of Luna Park.”

On Sunday April 9th at 11:30 am, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and local stakeholders and elected officials will gather at Luna Park to kick off the season. A press conference, egg cream christening and formal opening ceremony will be held in front of the Cyclone. Brooklyn Seltzer Boys will provide egg cream samples for the first 150 guests.

Luna Park will open on weekends from April 8th to Memorial Day. It will open seven days a week beginning Memorial Day weekend. The park will remain open seven days a week throughout the summer.

The Coney Island Cyclone was named a New York City Landmark in 1988, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The roller coaster has 2,640 feet of track featuring 12 drops and 27 elevation changes, including an 85-foot, 60-degree plunge at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Luna Park fully refurbished the Cyclone in 2016.
