Can people power resurrect Midlands park?
Petition to re-open American Adventure Park is gathering strength
Local people are getting behind a bid to resurrect a long-defunct adventure park in the East Midlands – American Adventure Park.
The park closed its doors in 2007 and has been derelict ever since, but a petition to bring it back to life is gathering momentum with more than 8,000 people backing a campaign calling for the attraction, next to Shipley Country Park near Ilkeston in Derbyshire, to reopen.
The campaign is the brainchild of Declan Salmon, from Hartshorne near Ashby, and now has 8,168 signatures, out of a target of 10,000.
He told the Nottingham Post : “It has been derelict for years and it is so sad to see it in this state.
“Houses would be no good on the land. We need something for kids and families to enjoy. It was a great park and I loved it. There has to be someone out there with enough money to invest and bring it back to life. I have many memories of visits there with friends and family but now it’s an eyesore.
“All the plans for the site seem to turn into nothing and I think at the moment it spoils the surroundings.”
