Plans for £65 million project amusement centre, including a go-kart track has been approved at Newcastle shopping centre.
This planning proposal was first revealed in December, after the widely known retailer Debenhams closed. This left thousands of square feet empty, in the shopping centre.
What will these plans include?
- First- Based on the top floor- will combine food, socialising, art, cultural entertainment and music performance
- Second- Based across part of the centre- hopes to include an indoor sports and entertainment centre, with an indoor electric go-kart course.
These changes are are anticipated to attract new visitors, bring an increased revenue into the city’s economy and create a lot more jobs.
Following this meeting, City Council’s Director (growth & investment), Michelle Percy said:
“The council’s vision for Newcastle city centre is a place that is economically strong, inclusive, and sustainable in which residents can be proud.
This £65m of new investment in Eldon Square is proof of the diversification of the city centre providing a boost to culture, leisure and entertainment offering live music, dance, and performances.”
