THEME PARKS: Six Flags lets Joker coaster loose
Six Flags Great America in Illinois, has opened its 15th coaster, based on Batman villain, The Joker.
The Joker Free Fly Coaster is the new centerpiece of the Yankee Harbor section of the park, next to its Batman The Ride roller coaster.

Free Fly Coaster is one of the most unique coasters ever built in Six Flags Great America’s 41 year history,” said park president, Hank Salemi. “The sensation of weightlessness as you flip 360 degrees from this innovative magnetic technology is truly incredible.”
After being lifted straight up a 12-story, 90-degree hill, riders flip head-over-heels up to six times along the weightless journey. The winged seat design will have riders suspended on the sides of the track.
Features include:
- Foating and twisting I-box track frame in a two-tone design.Onboard magnetic technology featuring smooth head-over-heels free-fly flips providing guests the feeling of weightlessness as they soar outside the confines of a traditional track.
- 4-D wing vehicles that seat up to eight per vehicle with a total of five vehicles.Face-off seats that allow riders to face each other.
- A 120-foot-tall, 90-degree hill that is ascended by an elevator-style, chain link lift.
- Two beyond 90-degree “raven” drops giving the sensation of free-falling.
