Fresno’s Playland in California will be closing its doors forever by the end of the month.

The executive eirector for Storyland Inc., Cindy L. Lee confirmed to YourCentralValley.com that the park will close by March 31.

Ms Lee said the board was given notice by the parks’ vendor – Helm and Sons – about the closure.

This announcement isn’t the first time the amusement park has announced it will be closing— in January 2024, the park posted on social media saying it was closing its doors forever. The park was saved from permanent closure later that month after a last-minute deal with its neighbour Storyland.

At the time, Storyland agreed to give the park the money it needed to stay open.

The park has been open for over 60 years and brought family-friendly fun to Fresno in that time. In a statement, Fresno’s Mayor, Jerry Dyer said he has his own fond memories of the park and that it was more than just an amusement park.

“It was a special part of Fresno’s history, woven into the experiences of countless families. That’s why its closure is heartbreaking,” Mr Dyer said.

He referenced in the statement that when Playland reopened in June of 2023 under new management, the financial difficulties tied to attendance left the current owners unable to sustain operations.
