A crew of daredevil abseilers descended the London Eye this week, carrying out checks on thousands of brand-new lights to get the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel ready for the festive season
The London Eye has recently undergone a major festive makeover, with 12,288 LEDs installed across the iconic structure, taking a team of specialists 1,000 hours to complete. Working at heights of up to 135 metres above the Thames, specialist teams helped transform one of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks into a sparkling festive beacon ahead of its Christmas light displays. From 14 November, the London Eye will light up the skyline every evening from dusk, with a short, free-to-view light show playing every 15 minutes throughout the night.

Our team has worked tirelessly to complete a major lighting upgrade, with specialist crews scaling 135 metres above the Thames to install and inspect thousands of new lights ahead of the festive season. We’re excited to unveil the transformation and help bring a little extra sparkle to London’s skyline this Christmas.”
